A major concern of producers is to reduce field losses and thus increase the number of marketable romaine or head lettuce per unit area. By targeting the most common causes of downgrading (i.e. physiological disorders, telluric and bacterial diseases, lettuce aphids), we address the major issues and choose to correct them by taking the genetic pathway. That's why our lettuce varieties are developed here, under our climate conditions, from seeds that originate from a breeding program of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The results are convincing so far for registered varieties. This bodes well for the future, as according to the 2016 edition of the Profil sectoriel de l'industrie horticole au Québec (Quebec's Horticultural Industry Sector Profile), revenues from the lettuce market are growing by almost 20% (2015/2014).
